silent hill take 1

hi again :) it's thanksgiving (technically) but i wanted to share my first efforts in making the bobblehead nurse costume from silent hill.  christine and i have been talking about this for a while, and always revel in the awesome costumes we see at cons.  we haven't quite figured out special fx makeup or liquid latex yet, but that's on my list to do as we get better at this cosplaying thing.

overall thoughts: as a last minute halloween costume, it wasn't too bad. of course i didn't sew it myself, and there were so many terrible overlooks on details that i'm normally a stickler on, but my friend and i did win first place in rice's halloween contest! don't know when we'll actually go eat $100 of buffalo wings, but we'll make time :P

Dress and Shoes: Bought them for ~$10 from Goodwill.  The khaki wrap dress was about 5 sizes too big so I sewed it in and cut off the bottom hem. The scraps were used for the mask.  Didn't have tea so I couldn't get that old worn look and went with bloodstains instead.

Mask: The mask was made with CVS gauze, leftover fabric strips and mod podge. I glued strips of twisted paper beneath the fabric to give the mask a more texture, but I have no idea how to paint depth.  I gave myself one eyehole so that i could see, but had no peripheral vision so I walked creepily all night.  That worked to my advantage lol

Hat: just made the hat with leftover strips from the dress and used interfacing to make it stand up.  I molded it into the mask itself.

Last minute touches: painted veins all over with acrylic paint. thankfully that stuff washes off

Until next time!
