Japan Day 4: Total Fail

Today was a total fail.

meeting up with jerry and john = FAIL.  waited for an hour and then ran around the stations to look. even left a note at the #1 exit at the Tokyo Metro Hibiya line for the Akihabara stop lol

"Jerry, find us at UDX"

jerry, someday, if you find this exit, check if the paper is still there k?

akiba try #2 = FAIL. (although we found a very otaku-ish shop...eew i never want to see the hentai section again)  Did you know they make hentai figurines?

I count the Akiba trip a half-success.  We were severely disappointed the first time at the lack of otaku-ness.  The second time, we knew where to go and visited Tokyo Anime Center in UDX -- which, by the way, is sort of a waste of time, so don't bother going there =\  The real otaku places were just across the street at Animate and the surrounding shops, one of which has some pretty cheap stuff.  The other one was at least 7 stories, with lots and lots of anime... stuff.  There were about 3 floors of manga, 2 floors of character goods, and one floor of wigs/cosplay stuff and hentai stuff.  And lots of otaku.  Jordan, this is where your brethren are. your smelly, sweaty, totally excited over 2D characters on pillows and cups and clocks brethren lol really really not a pleasant place.

Despite the amount of stuff, we really didn't find anything.  Everything was really expensive, not that special, and just... yeah.  Disappointing.  But it was definitely otaku-land.

photobooth pics = FAIL.

that about sums up the day. the only exception was ramen, which was excellent.
sigh.........................i really wanted to go to the gundam cafe too :(

The Gundam Cafe is located right across the (other) street from UDX, near the JR station.  It was pretty cool-looking and had a really long line.  If we'd met up with Jerry, we definitely would have gone, but otherwise it was sort of pointless for us to go ourselves (even though we really wanted to see it).

As for the photobooth pics... well, so this day basically went from good to bad.  It started out leisurely with some breakfast from 7-11.  I tried this weird red bean and rice flour ball stuff, and we both had onigiri and this awesome Lipton peach tea from a carton. It was good stuff, except the red bean was a bit too sweet.  We also ate some of this chunk of red tea/rice flour bar that we got at Tokyo Station.  It's delicious.  Go there and buy some.

Then, Akiba... as described above :(  After that, we went back to the hostel to recuperate and check the internet to see if we had any messages from Jerry.  On the way, we stopped by to get some delicious ramen from a shop near our hostel.  I'm not sure I can go back to instant ramen... well, no, I definitely can.  XD  But it was good; Tiffy had roast pork ramen, and I had ramen in a miso-soup base with a bunch of random toppings on it.  The bowls were HUGE.  I came out of there feeling so full.  My stomach was like a water balloon about to pop =__=;  But yes, it was delicious. agree on both counts--very filling and very good :D

Tokyo Anime Center... it was pretty disappointingly... small.

What the animate building looks like kind of, if you're interested.

We headed back to Harajuku thereafter to check out this place called Oriental Bazaar, a headquarters of Japanese stuff and souvenirs.  It's pretty cool in there; if you'd like to get some Japanese-esque gifts, definitely go check there.  They even had a pretty large section of kimonos, yukatas, and happis (the short coat that goes over everything else).  There were some pretty ones, but neither of us got one.  I'm waiting for one to speak to me before I invest in something like that~

Oh, and something random we saw...

On the way to Harajuku, we walked through a station we haven't been in before.  It reminded me of the shed aka Resident Evil lab building, because there were these long, white-tiled hallways.  Tiffy said that it would make a good setting for a horror game.  There you are, walking in the subway station.  You're the only one in the station, because it's really late.  Suddenly, a train pulls up with a car full of people -- they jump out and they're a bunch of ZOMBIE LOLITAS.  And they start attacking you.  You have to run away, but the doors/entrances keep changing, and the subway becomes a maze.  And then... I dunno.  I guess you get eaten by the zombie lolitas XD  I'm super tempted to make an original cosplay of all white, with a white eye patch, light-colored hair, a white lolita dress, white stockings, and white shoes... and one bit of red somewhere.  I'm going to make the costume, give myself a name and a story, and then go around telling people I'm from this video game, haven't they heard of it? XD lol don't forget we also decided to do steampunk kuroshitsuji! that should be fun too

Another interesting thing we saw was a wedding procession of some kind(?) down Takeshita street in Harajuku.  It was pretty cool, actually~

We then got some ice cream floats from the cafe we went to our first time in Harajuku and headed of for the photobooths... which, yeah, they were a fail.  I couldn't see because I took my glasses off XD  And the machines we tried just.. weren't... they were just super disappointing :(  One did let us change our hair color and eye color, though.  And they  made our eyes huge.  We won't be going back to those machines tomorrow, nope.  (We didn't come out very pretty, is why we're complaining.)

After that, we found some cookies and green tea ice cream... ate it, and came back.  Uneventful, sort of relaxing, but mostly disappointing day =\  Hopefully tomorrow is better -- we've planned(?) to meet with Jerry again, and we're heading back to try the photobooths again.

Since this is a mostly boring post, I'm going to randomly summarize the guys of note so far:
- Subway boy, a high school kid with a serious look on the subway from the airport.
- Subway man, that creepy ish dude who kept looking at us.
- Lock man, a guy who was staring at me trying to open my lock.  Oh yeah, my luggage lock died and hates me.
- Hostel man, one of the workers at the hostel.  Tiffy wanted to know what he was making, so I asked him.  He said he hadn't decided yet.  Later he asked me why I studied Japanese, and I replied anime.  Then later, as he was finishing cooking, I was being the curious kitty and kept looking over (I was sitting at the bar, which is on the other side of the counter from the kitchen).  I asked him if he was done, and he said he was, but didn't know what he just made XD  The weird part comes when he came back later to put up the dish.  He randomly chuckled, and when I was like ? he just shook his head and said, "Nothing." >__>;;  Not sure what that means.
- Actor man, this guy I saw in passing at the subway.  Nothing too special, he was "attractive" in that I think he could make a good actor/model.  But he seemed too old for me/us, even though he was probably only in his late 20's or early 30's.
- American man, a young guy we saw in Harajuku with nice style, okay hair, and a decent face.  We didn't really get a good look at him, though, so he doesn't count :(  He had amazing skin, though.  I call him American man because he had an American feel, even though he was speaking Japanese.
- Pretty boy, a young guy we saw while waiting for the film at Ghibli who had fluffy hair and a nice striped shirt -- the same as, or very similar to, the striped shirt one of his friends was wearing.  I mean like, couples matching shirts kind of similar to.  It was weird.  He wasn't that good-looking, but I thought his profile was pretty.  And he had nice skin.

- Ghibli man, another guy we saw while waiting for the film in Ghibli.  Tiffy said he wasn't bad.  He definitely had nice style.
- Sailor boy, a kid (high school age, probably) we saw in Harajuku today.  He was wearing an old-school sailor outfit, along with some of his friends.  Not really sure why they were wearing it, but they were interesting-looking and Tiffy said he wasn't bad, too :3  Too young, though.
- Shorts man, a man we saw on the subway back.  He was wearing sort of Dr. Patt-style shorts (mid-thigh), a blue tank, and ballet-like shoes.  He wore a hat and a light sweater that looked pretty feminine.  His mannerisms were also very feminine.  It was pretty interesting, actually... something about him made me want to know his story.

sigh....lol we sound like creepers christine
Do not, they were the ones being creepy XP  Although an interesting update... I think I saw shorts man on TV this morning (July 4) as we were checking out of the hostel O__O
